VGC 2020 -> VGC 1.0 (and website update)

November 13, 2019

Hello everyone!

As I have mentioned in the previous post, it has now become clear that I won't be able to have the first stable version of VGC ready by 2020, and I prefer to be transparent about this as soon as possible.

Therefore, it doesn't make any sense anymore to call the first stable version "VGC 2020". When I started the project, I had chosen this version scheme because I believe that naming software versions from their release year is what makes the most sense. I still believe it, but obviously, this makes it hard to talk about a future version when we don't know its release year yet.

So I am proud to announce that from now on, I will be calling the first stable version "VGC 1.0". Yes, mindblowing, I know ;-)

This new name is robust to delays in the development, and makes it crystal clear to anyone reading about it that it's the first version. I know, all of this is obvious, I just wanted to say it anyway. In the future, I may change again and call them by their release year (example: VGC 2028), since I still think that in the long term it makes more sense. For example, this is what Autodesk Maya had been doing for a very long time, until very recently when they switch to a subscription-only model.

I have updated the VGC website and the Patreon page to reflect the change, now mentioning that VGC 1.0 is expected to be released in 2021. And since I was updating the website anyway, I took some time to improve the design and "story" a little bit, check it out!
